Porsche LMP2000

Post by jaykay »

It's been quite a while since I posted a build report but here goes.

Image

After finally getting my own 3D printer last year and playing with it doing detail parts I decided to try and do a complete project from scratch.
So I spent the first two months of this year building data. It's a mix of polygon data for the main body and nurbs surface modeling for the detailing and „small“ parts.
Since it's a lot of time invested I went for a subject that's unlikely to ever be made by someone else. So here's a shot of the body on wheels and a few extra bits so you can guess what it is :-)

Image

Since my Phrozen Mini 8K doesn't have a big building room I had to print the body in 2 halves and assemble them.
I had to do a surprising amount of sanding to clean up the body surfaces.
The printer is better with small parts and/or I need more experience doing bigger stuff :-)

I also printed the „rest“ of the small bits.

Now it's time to put on some primer and then paint and a lot of decals...

I don't know what it is, but you kids with your new toys are amazing. I love building these 3D kits, I find they are actually easier than injected kits. I have yet to fill an injector mark or scrape and sand a lot of mold lines. My heros!

It's indeed the never raced Porsche LMP2000 in 1:24.
Since the original car is unpainted carbon fiber with only a few sponsor decals on top there'll be a lot of decaling necessary.
I don't just want to paint it black :-)

Can’t be painted. Will look sooo good with carbon weave.
