Where to find F1/Indycar/single seater kits

Post by Blue »

I am having a hard time finding single seater kits of any kind. From Amazon Canada , we only have the Lotus type 79 and the 6 wheel Tyrell.

Is there any online store specifically that focuses on F1 or Indycars ?

It is surprising how little offerings there are considering the heightened popularity of F1. I am looking on Amazon.uk and I found a couple things. But what else is out there ?

Try -> https://www.hiroboy.com/product-filter/ ... r,in+stock

Or -> https://www.hobbyeasy.com (Its in Hong Kong but shipping is pretty good)

Older kits are going to be hard to find... unless you want to pay the premium on eBay...

A lot of the 1/20 F1 kits from Tamiya or Fujimi have been release more than 5 years ago and are sold out. These nclude F1 cars from late 90's to may be 2010. There are also some old F1 cars from the 60's. They are also been release a couple years ago.

There are the BT52 and MP4/2B from Beemax recently released.

You may be able to find some old 1/24 Hasegawa or Revell kits for cars of the 90's.

You may try Hobby Search Japan for new kits or Mandarake for re-sell kits. Both are in Japan.

The only newly release kits are the 1/12 Lotus 99T and 1/12 McLaren MP4/4.

Post on the wanted list in the forum. You might find someone willing to sell some extra kits.

I have a good number of 1/20 and 1/12 Tamiya kits in my stash. Also some Fujimi. I have a good reputation as a seller on this forum, and I only charge what I paid for the kits. PM me if interested.

Anyway welcome to the Forum. You most probably stumbled upon it googling for kits :D well many of us experienced the same but then never left.
The thing is you are facing a community that after (most important) being the kindest and most helpful crew I ever met, are like Caribbean Pirates, true experience G.I. used to find kits under the rocks.
Honestly the better way for a newby is knowing what you are looking for, so firstly knowing what is available. Spotmodel is a sponsor of this place and they stock many things but F1 stuff is not like planes or AFV and most of produced kits are discontinued. Having a look at the “for sale “ section you will know what exists at least 🤷‍♂️😃
We seasoned modelers also go to local hobby shop (LHS) and find one or none F1 kits, let alone Indycars...

There are a number of places in Canada that sell single seater kits. Not sure if you are aware if them, if so excuse me for repeating them. Here are links of places I have dealt with. The first two are brick and mortar hobby stores in the greater Toronto area where I live that sell online as well.

Wheel and Wings home page:
https://wheelswingshobbies.com

In addition to new kits (which you can search), W&W also has pre-owned kits with a number of single seater kits available:

Sunward Hobbies home page:
https://www.sunwardhobbies.ca

SH page for 1:12 scale cars:
https://www.sunwardhobbies.ca/1-12-scal ... ar-series/

SH page for 1:20 scale cars:
https://www.sunwardhobbies.ca/1-20-scale-grand-prix/

Another place I have dealt with, primarily for Zero paints and Top Studio kits, and is more focused on cars and bikes is Paints, Models & More. It is purely an online presence. The name of the fellow running the operation is Paul. He is located in Alberta, north of Calgary if I remember correctly.
https://www.paintsmodelsandmore.com

To my pleasant surprise Paul has updated his website and has begun listing the products he sells. At one time the website with just an email address to which you can ask him to send you his inventory list. What he has listed on his site is a fraction of what is contained in the inventory list I got from him earlier this year. I will be reaching out to him for a revised list as there is a kit I am interested, and you can do the same to get a full picture of what he has available.
