+1 for Mr Color Flouro Red. Great paint and colour

I've had great results with Mr. Color Fluorescent red - and unlike most, it is semi-gloss, not flat.

What gloss did you use for Mr. Color ?

With a heavy heart, I spent several hours on my M26 yesterday removing all my masking (so lovingly applied in the first place) and then attacked the worst affected components with Zero Paint Stripper. (It was really effective I must say! It even melted my rubber gloves...)

I will prime the Mac a second time and leave it to dry for a full week as away over Christmas. Have some Mr Color 171 on order and will be able to compare/contrast with Zero paint when we get back.

Just looking back, my first primer coat was several days old so I would be surprised if that was the cause. However, whilst I was trying to leave a few minutes between mist coats, I might have not left a full 5 minutes between each one....

Maybe the pressure was too high at around 15psi when I was doing my mist coats? Perhaps I should have shaken the bottle more vigorously? However I think the most likely error was not leaving enough time between coats. I will certainly leave it longer next time (although to be fair, I have never had this problem before - even with the same paint/primer/airbrush).

The cracks didnt actually appear at first - but materialised after a short time and thankfully I hadnt actually started on several components when they started appearing. At least I wont have to re-mask the nose, cockpit sides and airbox - a modest Christmas blessing!

Yes, but a little goes a long way, so you really don't need too much to get full coverage.

Yes. McLaren used the same Flouro red for it's M@r!b*r* sponsored cars from 1976 to 1996.

Great, the Tamiya paints take a lot for coverage, so that's why I ask, as I can use a 33ml container quick!

Mr. Color. I always try to stick with the same brand for clear coat.

I have used Mr Color 171 fluorescent Red before. yes the colour seem good for mclaren red. However, the fluro effect does fade away over time.
I noticed this after 2 years painting my mclaren Mp4/12 (the lower section of the front nose). It looks like normal red now.
The car was kept in a display cabinet away from sunlight.

Thanks for the tip on Gaia notes fluro red. I will try this and see.
