Is there some other link to whatever info is at that link? I'm on a network that's heavily firewalled and that site complains about an ad-blocker.

You can try

http://www.meng-model.com/en/contents/59/581.html

but I've had issues connecting to their site from time to time.

For those of you who have the kit in hand, what race does Meng body and parts most closely correspond to?

Well, with the McLaren decals, none, as far as I am aware. So you will need replacements for those... I would say it's most likely the German GP...?

I watched this video last night about the MP4/4 - which has a load of helpful close up shots and interesting narrative by three of the original design team:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7uZu_Wsdis&t=116s

There are some great close up shots and a lot of insight into the design process.

A question - a lot of people complain that the wing endplates (and other parts) are often too thick on a plastic kit and I agree they often are, but there is a Hobby Design PE set available for the MP4/4 and I tend to think that PE endplates are too thin - what do you think?

Thank`s for the link, interesting!

I guess your right with the kit parts and also the Hobby Design parts as Hobby Design used quiet often thin material which fits more likely 1:20 or 1:24 models. Even 2 parts on top of each other reach not a scale matching result finaly, but it is possible to do etched parts in a matching thickness. Unfortunately, no one did this so far, hopefully maybe someone will come up with such parts in the future.
Take a stand!

I'd agree that an etched endplate will be too thin. I don't have the kit though so I can't comment on the thickness of the kit parts.
You can always sand the kit parts thinner ( which may be a tedious job ) or in this case with the completely flat endplate ( + guerney flap at the trailing edge )
you can easily make a thinner version from plasticard.
BTW there's a chamfer running around all but the trailing edges. So some thickness is needed.

I finally surrendered and got mine on Amazon yesterday. To be home before March
I’ll make my review 8)
BTW all the fuzz about the 99T makes me want to have one even if it’s to make a JPS version.
It’ll be like a 35 year time travel when we did the same with the 1/20
Anyway I can’t seem to find a reasonable price way to get it yet.

Hi James, if you live in Europe, try dominomodel from Belgium. 259€ for the 99T and 86,50€ for the detail set. I think it’s one of the best prices you can get in Europe!

The Meng MP4/4 is priced 190€ btw
