Re: Beemax McLaren MP4/4
I only hope they don’t race eachother and we end up with two rushed / rubbish kits….
Re: Beemax McLaren MP4/4
Yes that`s my thought also, i can`t remember any model that comes from 2 different companies in the same scale at the same time (maybe).
But maybe it is good cause you can choose the better one finaly.

Tamiya and hasegawa releasing 1/20 lotus 1979.
Rumor was Tamiya had their sitting on the shelf and released it when they heard the hasegawa one was coming out. Not sure how that affected sales for hasegawa. I ended up getting one of each.

Re: Beemax McLaren MP4/4
There were two GT40s that came out recently with the Meng one being the much less expensive one. I'm curious how this will work out. Hopefully people still support it, but I know the Lotus 79 was talked about for years as a kit that would be a hit, and when it came out it didn't seem to sell very well, or at least we don't have many examples of it being made.

Not a big surprise as they have been duplicating kits since the 1960's. Don't ask why, maybe ego? Certainly not a good business model as you cut your margins in half but companies do it in other industries also.

Re: Beemax McLaren MP4/4
Beside Tamiya/Hasegawa doing the Lotus 79 who has been duplicating kits?

Re: Beemax McLaren MP4/4
In terms of (large scale) cars I can (only) think of the GT40 from Trumpeter/Magnifier and Meng kits and the 312 kits from Tamiya and Protar.
In terms of other topics, i.e. aircraft, armor, smaller scale cars or Star Wars there are loads of cases of more than one manufacturer releasing a kit of the same model with (in?) the same scale.
