Ferrari 312 B3 1973 1:12

Post by ferrarissimus »

For some years I dealed with the project realizing a 1:12 scale 312 B3 1973, to close my last gap in the Ferrari 312B cars intros scale.
Encouraged by my 312 B3 1974 WiP in this forum, I will start this new WiP now. This will be more challenging than my last 3 curbside Ferrari WiP's 2000, 2001 and 2007 and more elaborating than the '74th 312 B3. Hope, will bring it to an end. Realization might be a little old- fashioned, cause I will not use a drawing program and a 3D prints.
Here are three photos of the car I'm going to build,

and my drawings in scale 1:12

Motor, cockpit and some other parts will be used from the Tamiya 312 T.

I'm still blown away by your conversion of the 1/12 Tamiya F190 to the F189 early season (no high airbox) version.

I'll be watching with interest. I always liked the look of this car for some reason. Good luck!

I agree, this wasn't a successful car by any means but still an interesting period. You just don't see many models of this car. I've been waiting for someone to do a nice Spazzaneve. I think it would sell.

Four versions of the 312 B3 were to be seen in the 1973 season. The most popular version was the first, the "snow plow or Spazzeneve". But this car never raced. Besides later versions the most commonly used was that one, I will replicate.
1973 was one of the worst Ferrari seasons beside 1992 and 1993. But this monocoque, constructed by Thompson in England, was the start in a much better competitive future, which led to a successful era from 1974 to 1979. So I think, was the '73rd Ferrari an important turning point, and for me a must to have a model car in this scale.

As I said before, the base of that scratchbuild will be the kit of the Tamiya 312 T.
In the first step I reduced the body.

Top is extended by surplus parts. Note the 5 mm at the rear end behind the seat and at the front.

Bottom is from 1.5 mm all sheet.
