Re: Ferrari F1 2000 1/12 MG-models
About 15 years ago I built the predecessor kit F 399 from MG models that had the same rims. I solved the problem by casting resin rims moulded in silicon from an Museum Collection 412 T2.
My next step was, to adapt the MG tires to the Revell rims, because the diameter of the Revell rims is slightly bigger. For that I turned a groove with the lath at the tire. Don't know why the Revell rims have that uncorrect interrupted groove at the flange? I fixed the rim in the lathe and turned it away.
But I soon stopped that plan, when I decided to replace the uprights and brakes. It was obvious to adapt the Revell F1 2002 upright brake system to the MG model and use the rims too. The Revell rims are not correct for the 2002 type, because they have 20 spokes, while BBR rims since 2002 had 14 spokes. For the yet to build Revell kit I have a Brian Fawcett replacement set, that contains new rims, uprights and brakes and other better detailed parts. My next step was, to adapt the MG tires to the Revell rims, because the diameter of the Revell rims is slightly bigger. The kit upright, brake, brake-ventilation system will be replaced by the Revell parts.
I admit they are not totally perfect, but hundred times better than the MG and they fit to the Revell rims. They must be adapted to the MG wishbones.Re: Ferrari F1 2000 1/12 MG-models
You have become a real master in combining Kit parts from every manufacturer to those MG kits, good job!
Take a stand!

Re: Ferrari F1 2000 1/12 MG-models
Question of tires?
Overall diameter front and rear is 655 mm = 54,5 mm in 1:12
Width of section front is 335mm = 27,9 mm and rear 375mm = 31,2 mm
Tread front is 265mm = 22,0 mm and rear 325mm = 27,0 mm
The MG kit tires don't match the shape and dimensions of that time F1 tires. Shape of that tires is nearly square, tread and width of section is nearly the same.
The distance of the 4 grooves is too big and must be more centered.
Front diameter is 51 mm, rear 52,5mm, must be 54,5mm.
Width of section front is 30mm ( must be 27,9) and 31mm rear.
Especially the front width of section is too wide.
Revell tires matches more the real shape and dimensions. Diameters are 54 mm front and rear.
Grooves are more centered,
Width tread is 21mm front and 25,5 rear; width of section is 27,5mm front and 31,5 rear.
Revell tires matches the dimensions and shape more than the MG. So I selected the Revell tires.
Comparison between MG(left) and Revell(right) rear tires.
This is a picture from Giorgio Piolas Formula 1 Technical Analysis book of 1999. I never found a notice, that the tire dimension changed for the next seasons. So I will use them for the 2000 car. Overall diameter front and rear is 655 mm = 54,5 mm in 1:12
Width of section front is 335mm = 27,9 mm and rear 375mm = 31,2 mm

Comparison front tires Revell left and MG right.
Re: Ferrari F1 2000 1/12 MG-models
The MG tires looking close to the same on front and back, good choice to use the Revell ones.
