I was researching as to why Ronnie had the 5 car and looks as though 1976 and the various 77s had quite the busy year. I see the inboard brakes in the pic, does this one have the rest of that complicated front suspension Lotus tried? That looks like a challenge all unto itself. I read that Andretti skipped Monaco in favor of Indy but anyone know why he skipped the first Long Beach? I assume he was at another race, somewhere else.

This early version of the Lotus 77 looks like a beast with this frontsuspension setup. I like it!
Please keep the updates coming.
So Chapman had to replace both drivers at the same time and took Bob Evans for number 5 and Gunnar Nilsson for number 6.
After the race in Long Beach Parnelli withdraw and Andretti was available for Lotus again. Chapman decided to replace Evans, which gave Andretti the number 5 for the rest of the season.

Going into the 1976 season Ronnie was the teamleader and therefor kept number 5. Chapman wanted to have Andretti as the second Lotus driver, but Mario was still under contract by the Parnelli Team. Parnelli skipped the opening round in Brazil, which allowed Mario to drive for Lotus with the number 6 car. At Kyalami and Long Beach Parnelli was back and Mario had to drive for them, while Ronnie left Lotus and went to March.bossy122 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 13, 2022 2:39 pm I was researching as to why Ronnie had the 5 car and looks as though 1976 and the various 77s had quite the busy year.
