Hi all,

Since a few months I have been working on & off on this one, but I never got to creating a WIP.

Anyway, this is where I stand now and I will update regularly from here on.

Front and back are not yet 'married'; plan is to finish the interior, then add suspension parts & brakes etc and finally the bodywork.

Tips on handling the dreaded decals (or masking) are welcome! ;)

Forgot to mention: the car will have the #3 ("hippie") livery.

Hi Marcus,

nice one so far. Cant give you any tips for the decals.Only remember that Alnie had some issues with them on his build years ago.
But i will watch this with interest because i am just create the 3d file for the 917k version.

regards Christian

My advice on the decals is to copy them at Hi Res and then print your own on good quality decal paper.
The door fit is a much more serious issue than the decals in my opinion.

The fluo green decals are "fine" if you put them into a bath of strong decal softener and let them "bath" for something like 5 minutes. Then they are much softer and that made the difference for me.

Just for info: The tube frame is Alu for the LH 917. They are (in most cases) black for the non-LH versions. The color indicated in the MFH instructions is wrong for the LH. Always check with your own reference pictures (NOT restored cars).

Great work so far, good luck with the decals. I did the 1/43 “hippy” 917 from Hiro, not completed, but the decals settled in nicely with the Solvaset decal solutions…

Thanks! I'll combine strategies. Scan the original decals, then try to apply them with loads of softener. If this fails, fall back on the printed copies. If these also fail, reprint on different type of paper/use other softener. If that fails, mask and paint...

@Allnie: I noticed that when it was already too late to go back, so I (easily) accepted my mistake and continued. If any person who sees my model in real life will ever call me out on that, the car is theirs :p

I'll be there if you tell me where "there" is. Should I bring my Hippie kit along for a trade then? :P
