Favorite Pin Vise and bits

Post by dgwoodward2 »

I would like to check with the crowd and see if anyone has a favorite version pin vise and associated bits. If you have a favorite, any details would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi dgwoodward2,

Excel make a pretty decent pin vise.

There are lots of cheap ones on the market (usually made in China) but the quality of these are mostly piss-poor to be honest. One set I have is that poorly engineered that the 4 jaws are misaligned and don't even hold the drill bit squarely.

Drill bits...pretty much the same deal. Get Excel drill bits or carbon steel bits if you can afford them.

Avoid buying cheap tools if you want tools that last.

Cheers, Paul

I have had the cheap ones, but the two Tamiya pin vices are comfortable and easy to spin.

Like Paul says - spend the money on good drill bits.

I also got the Tamiya drill and it's great.
But I only use this tool from Tamiya which is amazing.
Bought all kind of sizes of drills for it.

Tamiya pin vise for me.
I tried cheaper ones, the drill bits dont fit as well, and break more easily.

I’ve recently been looking at some DPSIEA stuff. They have an interesting pin vise, among other really good stuff. Check out the PE folder machine, too. Maybe a little more money than others I’ve seen, really well done.

But, I’m always looking for cool tools, so it might be interesting for you, too. DPSIEA is in Singapore, but there’s an outlet in the US I found. Have fun! BTW, I have no business connection with them!

DSPIAE is the strange name if you want to search for them. I had a look at their site and as it has a three jaws it might be something for me. Not to keen on the four jaw variants.

It got a switch just like a Gaspedal. Works very well for adjusting the speed.

( wie bei einer guten Bohrmaschine kannst du recht einfach mit dem Finger die Drehzahl bestimmen. Aber nur in einer Stufe)

I have the DSPIAE (Diss-Pay) AT-HD Hand Drill, and a few of their other tools bought from HobbyEasy. Extremely well made, albeit some items are pricey. The only issue with the hand drill/pin vise is it's very smooth finish, which makes it a bit difficult to spin at times. Easily rectified with a bit of masking tape or whatever. Note that it is NOT a multi-jaw vise, but rather takes the common 3.2mm shank micro drill bits and they are a snug fit and secured with a set screw. A mini allen-head screwdriver is provided.
