Re: HELP!! CROMAGNON COMPUTER MAN DID IT AGAIN!
Hey, check all of the fans are spinning up on the CPU cooler when you boot it up.
Usually the PC will turn itself off at a specific temperature in order to save itself, so it should be okay when you make sure the thermal paste is on, fans are working etc.
If you post some pics of the set up I can take a look to see of anything looks off.

Thanks Ty! pics tomorrow
Re: HELP!! CROMAGNON COMPUTER MAN DID IT AGAIN!
Thanks again Ty. I managed to make it start, though it still sjows the warning, just that now it allows pressing F1 and it keeps goiung. Tried to make it work with a pair of HD which already had Win7 and WinXP installed though it did not work (though it tried), not sure also if it should...
Moved to a further screen now, trying to make a different one work, now have some doubts where to plug the PWR switch cable to!!

If you have an intel board the pin layout should be this.

Double check the board manual if you still have it!

It most likely won't work. There are a lot of things going on when you install the operating system that don't like switching between PCs, especially if the last PC was an Intel and the new one is a AMD processo for example.JamesB wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 10:23 am Thanks again Ty. It might be worth showing a picture of the motherboard with items plugged in to see what is going on.Also you can usually find the motherboard manufactuer/model on the board and find the manual so you know what to click in. If you put a new CPU and cpu heat sink on, did you put any thermal paste on under neath? It may need more, or may need the cpu heatsink put on a bit tighter.
Re: HELP!! CROMAGNON COMPUTER MAN DID IT AGAIN!
As usual you are great, mates
Thanks again!!
Hmm the image does not seem to clear what I want, Ty, I surely was quite unclear in my question!
Yes Stu, I found out the hard way. Next time if I get it running I´ll simply install the Windows I have. Yes the HD try to correct things but did not work.
Now I´ll concentrate in making the last available PC work. They are all second hand. I tried to see it at the motherboard´s brand site but I don´t seem to understand. So, to both, BIG thanks and please watch this space, I´ll post motherboard pics later

Re: HELP!! CROMAGNON COMPUTER MAN DID IT AGAIN!
There is great free program called hwinfo. It collects and displays a huge quantity of info on your processor, motherboard, memory, and graphics card temperatures, fan speeds, voltages and more. Your opportunity after installing will be understanding what to do with all the info, but at least it provides for its collection, so you have something you can provide for more knowledgeable folks to help with diagnosing solutions. This might help to get to more targeted solutions. I hope you find it helpful. cheers

Yes, Stu, the motherboard's name, I had already checked but forgot to include the pic thanks!
BTW this sunday there were no fewer than 4 Asus like this one on sale at the flea market! Interesting!
OK I think I understand now the drawing supplied by you, Ty ; looking closer there's a grid of pins like that.
Here come the pics

Re: HELP!! CROMAGNON COMPUTER MAN DID IT AGAIN!
Hi again gang!
You know I am good at asserting the width of a wing, a wheelsbase or a tyre diameter.
But lost when it comes to keyboards and tactile screens. Let alone when you put them together.
Please, anyone can lead me to an easy way to download pictures from my iphone 10 to a Win10 PC?
iCloud is not an option before you say
As usual, THANKS in advance!
