Re: Group Build Williams FW11B 1/20
I got a tiny run on the spine of the engine cover but held it vertically whilst it dried and gravity sorted it out for me, but you are right, it would be very easy to get runs developing. Just inspected it all again and I'm very happy with it. Now at the stage of do I say a polish will do or get greedy and put another coat on. Will let it dry for a week and see how brave I'm feeling...

Got the Gunze Top Coat on 2 months ago. Have been letting it dry thoroughly before any handling. Very impressed with this paint. Out of the can you have to apply very close to the kit to avoid orange peel. Very easy to apply to much and get pooling but if you hold the kit in the right direction gravity will settle the paint. It can be applied with no consequence to the decals and gives a lovely unifying sheen. The finish is, I feel, a realistic sheen rather than glass like 2K. As I said, very happy with it and will be using this product for the foreseeable future.
The front suspension assembled without a hitch after my earlier planning. The seat fitted into the chassis ok. Seat belts were added.
The chassis was mounted to the undertray and now sits waiting for electrical boxes/sidepods etc to be added.
Slowly moving forwards...

Mansell's ride is looking good! I like the Top Coat finish, and the shades of yellow and blue you've chosen. Nice paint work.

I know what you mean about 2K. It is nice to airbrush and the results can be stunning, the Top Coat just suits me as it sprays well from the can. I'm just happy to have found a product I'm happy to work with that can safely clear coat over decals. Makes such a difference.Shunter wrote:Looks great...I am a fan of 2K mainly as I can AB it on. Thanks for the kind words guys.

Looking good; I have built the FW11 in the past and would like to do this version.
I have been using Mr Hobby UV Cut Gloss for a few years now (straight from the can) but had not heard of Top Coat until now; is it better?

The initial gloss coat over the Zero paint colours was done with Gunze U/V gloss but Allan mentioned on here that product would eat decals, similar to TS13, so when it came time to apply over the decals I used the Top Coat. No problems at all with the decals and, like I said earlier, it gives a nice realistic sheen.

Re: Group Build Williams FW11B 1/20
Since my last update I have gotten moved on a bit further. The engine electrics are done. Some Top Studio connectors stuck into the boxes with heat shrink tubing. The wiring doesn't run to the right places by any means but it's busy and better than nothing. The radiators are installed and the shrouding I made out of plastic sheet. I only made the shroud good enough to be visible from the front of the sidepod so I didn't bother around the intercooler. The sidepod covers fit OK. The rear engine cover sits in place well and the rear wing is in place. All that's left is nosecone/front wing, brakes, tyres and wheels and rear light. Nearly there...
