Oil tank. Its not wide or deep or tall enough. The shape is quite complicated, so started with a beam to establish the correct width and length.

A bit of final sanding and its not looking too bad.

That is some serious craftsmanship going into that build!
Also some good ideas, like using different materials to where they fit.

However, it also impresses me how poorly some of these major kits are made, which comparing with the price they command is very disappointing
But all the more interesting it is to see the build ;)
Currently building:
Alfa Romeo 159 (since 2021)
Recently finished:
Renault R30 (since 2010)

Harv, BMW, thanks for the comments. This certainly is more work than I thought it would be!

I found another 1512 build going on over on the Italian site Modellismo

I've somehow managed to miss this WIP so having found it I have just caught up with it all. Inspiring stuff and some real skill on show. I will definitely be following this WIP now.

Evening fellow F1M’ers
A bit more completed, oil tank made even taller and more added to the back to give more clearance to the new master cylinders, lids for the master cylinders made, coolant pipes sketched in, suspension pickups made thicker. The black hose is shrunk heat shrink tube, the clip is a piece of thick foil from a baking tray with the edge of a file pressed in to represent the ‘teeth’ for the worm drive.

To finally position the radiator and make its supports, I need to finish the body shell which involves grinding away the excess carbon fiber, not something I have been looking forward to so I have been putting this off. So I decided to have a go at something simple and finish the wheels… Well that did not quite work out as I thought!! I cut the excess from the rims, they fit the tyres really well.
IMG_3309.JPG
To make the spokes more scale I started to make a flange to go behind the spokes, but this highlighted that the spokes are not evenly spaced and the wrong shape. In the photo they look a lot better than they are! The drawing is dead accurate, I made it twice size and shrank it on the copier

IMG_3323.JPG
Also the rears have no ‘dish’ so there is a large gap between the back of the spokes and the rear upright.

By chance I discovered the rims from my 1/12 Porsche 910 are exactly what I want
IMG_3336.JPG
The fronts should have no dish, but overall 100% better.
158-001.jpg
Other stuff I have completed, hub carriers drilled for stub axles
IMG_3317.JPG
An off cut of the Ureol from the fuel tanks came in useful as a drill jig for the 1mm holes for the top and bottom wishbone attachments
IMG_3316.JPG
Top front suspension arms will be modified Lotus 49 parts, they are just the right width and length, a bit of putty and sanding will correct the shape.
IMG_3337.JPG
Other bits in progress, front brake caliper mount looks a bit odd! No clues in the instruction book about how this is supposed to attach.
IMG_3313.JPG
So off with the mono-mount and new ones made, Tyrrell 003 callipers sourced from the 1/12 scrapyard

So this brings me to my request, before I start modifying my Porsche 910 rims, and I leave my Porsche with none, does anyone have a spare set of 1/12 Porsche 910 rims they are willing to part with? PM me with an offer, I don’t mind if they are used and/or from the scrapyard!

Does the UK importer sell spares?

I have never seen a set on ebay.

Moving along at a good pace, Malc!! Those 910 wheels look spot on, don't they.
I can't wait for your next update....I'm so impressed by what I see, Keep it up

Cheers, H
