The same thing I have a feeling that the mesh covers are not painted in white, but they are actually covered with a sort of a mesh tissue, to stop the famous Zandvoort sand getting into the engine breath system.jordan wrote:Hey Eric,
You can see clearly that it is a "cloth "cover..and not painted. Also it was only used in Holland..Maybe as a test ?

Oh no, I did not know the mesh intake covers were white!
I left mine brass when building this car.
Did you get my PM with the link to my build?

Yes Tigers I did. Thank you very much. In autocourse 1979 is a picture of the Williams clearly with "Cosworth" covers. Otherwise stunning build Tigers, why not posted here on F1M.

Re: Williams FW 07 "Dutch GP '79"Tamiya 1/20
This is looking great
A long time ago, I saw a finished version of this that had all of the upper bodywork removed. The car took on a completely different look. Now it was a narrow tub and a giant upswept ground effects floor. Made the car look really lite. He used super thin aluminum to wallpaper the sidepod floor. I had no idea if the floor panels were aluminum..but it looked great. This is taking it a whole step further.

Eric,
You may already be aware of this, but there are two photo galleries on the FW07 here on the F1M site. One of the galleries consists of photos taken in the pits during 1979, with the car completely stripped.

I was there at the GP at the time. Williams had the mesh cover but it was filled with a white kind of cotton wool. Why? Zandvoort is situated in the dunes and it' s always windy. This was Williams' attempt to keep the sand out of the cosworth's inlets.
