Re: The 2012 Yee-Haw GP
More info from Bernie...
http://www.formula1blog.com/2010/05/25/ ... -in-texas/Bernie Ecclestone, President and CEO of the Formula One Group stated: “For the first time in the history of Formula One in the United States, a world-class facility will be purpose-built to host the event. It was thirty years ago that the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ was last held on a purpose-built permanent road course circuit in Watkins Glen, NY (1961-1980), which enjoyed great success… This however, will be the first time a facility is constructed from the ground up specifically for Formula One in the US.”

Who knows. Everything I read about Austin shows that's it's actually a very cosmopolitan city and very much contrarian to much of Texas, despite being the capital. And according to Wikipedia, Austin is the only city in Texas that has no ordinance against women going topless in public.indycals wrote:I'll believe it when I see it.
It's also the home of Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmie, and Eric Johnson, so that's gotta count for something.
Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Re: The 2012 Yee-Haw GP
Well, I'd say my tax dollars were paying for it, but I'm in a different county and we don't have state income tax here.
@BullittStang - Austin's far from the only cosmopolitan area in Texas, but you're right about them bucking the norm. Their city slogan (though it may be the unofficial one) is "Keep Austin Weird". Big college town . . . . but I'm assuming that the track itself will be well outside the city proper. Now let's hope they have the brains to schedule it outside of the normal tornado season . . . and that Tilke won't be designing it.

Re: The 2012 Yee-Haw GP
Do I hear some Texas bashing going on?????
There is nothing wrong with a GP held in Austin. Especially on a purpose built track. If it was on a street course with the stupid crash barriers, that are hard to see over then it would be a waste...

My state of disbelief is that someone is going to fork out hundreds of millions of dollars to build a track so they can pay Bernie 30 mil a year for ten years.Fuel*Buzzed wrote:Do I hear some Texas bashing going on?????
