Re: Speed Build : Stewart Ford SF-3
Hello All,
A little more progress on the Stewart. Front suspension is attached. Despite lining up all four corners, I'm sure it'll be a 3-wheeler , it's my curse with multi-media kits The front and rear wings got their fasteners and the front wing is now attached. Body rivets have all been installed. I used Hobby Design flat rivets (0.5mm) with a dark grey wash to give them a little depth. Cockpit is finished with the steering wheel installed. The skid-plank has also been installed. For this, I used KA wood sheet for the plank. I love the look of the real wood, and I believe it's appropriate for the cars of 1999. I'm not certain from which year they changed materials to what they are today. So, that's where we stand. Next up is to get the rain light cut and installed so I can install the rear wing. Also planning to get the barge-boards polished, decalled and assembled this weekend...........maybe .
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris, All that rivet detal is well worth the effort and the "plank" looks great. Good luck with the rear wing as it's usualy my downfall!

Very nice build, the rivets really add to the model! A quick question, what is KA wood and how is it applied? I'm currently working on a B195, and I'm not really looking forward to doing the plank by airbrush.
Thanks,
Jan

Re: Speed Build : Stewart Ford SF-3
Thanks for the comments guys .
Jan,
KA wood is wooden sheet, which is made by KA Models. It's a thin wood sheet with an adhesive backing. Just cut it to shape, and stick it in place, really easy I've used it a couple times and I like the way it looks. I think painting the skid-plank is pretty easy, but this looks better.
You can see it here at HLJ. http://www.hlj.com/product/KALKM20003
You can get it anywhere KA Models stuff is carried.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Speed Build : Stewart Ford SF-3
Hello All,
I am nearing the finish line for the Stewart Ford SF-3. I've got everything put together except for the cameras and wheels. Barge-board assembly was remarkably easy, problem was that I attached the "MCI " decals to the chassis before attaching the barge-boards. As a result the decals on the chassis couldn't be lined up well with those on the barge-boards, and they had to be skewed a little bit. Not the end of world. So, all that's left now is to finish the cameras and attach them, then attach the wheels and it'll find its place in the cabinet .
As always, comments, questions and feedback is welcome.
Cheers,
Chris

Nice looking work, loved these cars when they were racing and your build is a nice tribute.
Re: Speed Build : Stewart Ford SF-3
Hi Chris,
Awesome looking build so far man. I really liked this car but never got around to getting it in kit form, plus my stash is more than I can build anyway with the addition of the recent Fujimi kits and such - but this car is looking really clean and well built the way you're going with it.
On the bargeboards, I was wondering if it would be possible to get a second set of the "MCI World..." decals from the side of the tub and use it to match up and fill with the part on the bargeboard already? Seems to me like someone should have a spare set or maybe even from the manufacturer eh?
Loving watching this - by the quality of the build I'd never guess it was a speed-build.
Cheers,
AJ
