Re: Speed-Build : Ferrari F187/88C
..sorry for the" rivet counting" but the tyres look like hell..too square to me..would it be possible to use the Tamiya F189 ones.?

Great subject Tony and nice start. I remember the drives over the border to SA for the race. It made it more fun going there as it was time away and the old story "what happens on tour stays on tour"
Re: Speed-Build : Ferrari F187/88C
Alex you can use the Tamiya F189 tires but you will also need to use the Tamiya f189 rims also. The Tamiya F189 rim and tires I think are much nicer.

Re: Speed-Build : Ferrari F187/88C
Thanks guys, this is good information. I'll try to post a photographic comparison later today, in the interests of making this thread as visual as possible.
I have a Benetton B188 donor kit at home, I wouldn't mind using it to avoid junking a perfectly good F189, but I'll need to compare the tyres and rims to an F189 before making that call.
Using Tamiya rims would actually solve the masking issue, as it will be far easier to mask and spray the metal than vice versa, I think.
Please keep the comments coming.
Cheers
Tony

How about engine detail in this kit? Looking at the sprues there seem to be very little engine parts

Re: Speed-Build : Ferrari F187/88C
Hi all,
The comparison of the Ferrari kit rims and tyres against the Tamiya F189 rims and tyres was interesting, to say the least.
There are detail differences between the rims. I don't have a detailed photo that tells me which one is more correct. (Tamiya F189 - left, Fujimi F187/88C - right)
There is a massive difference in the size and profile of the tyres. The Fujimi ones are huge in comparison to the Tamiya ones, especially at the front. If I make the assumption that the Tamiya ones are close to being correct, then the Fujimi ones are quite incorrect.. At the least, this would make this model look very odd in a collection of era F1 cars, which is what I'm trying to achieve.
Front (Fujimi - left, Tamiya - right)
Rear (Fujimi - left or bottom, Tamiya - right or top)
Conclusion: I'll use the rims and tyres from a Tamiya F189
Thanks for the heads up guys, I'm glad we looked at this now rather than later although this means I'm back to square one.
Glank - I'll have a look at the engine in the next couple of days, it's too late to start it now.
Cheers

Re: Speed-Build : Ferrari F187/88C
Hi all,
I am planning to spray Tamiya Italian Red on this one, with their fine white primer as an undercoat. Is this the best choice of undercoat to achieve an authentic color for a late eighties Ferrari ?
Thanks
Tony

Thanks for the comparison of the tyres. The Fujimi McLaren MP4/6 has some tyre issues. Wrong style and my personal opinion is that they are way too small as well.tonym wrote:Hi all,

I don't think you'll go wrong with white primer and Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red....

YES. But remember - the white primer must cover 100% everywhere. Then 3 thin coats of TS-8.tonym wrote:Hi all,
