2010 F1M "SPEED BUILD"

Post by CaptainMark »

- - 2010 : F1M : “SPEED-BUILD" - -

Including secret randomised extension…

No more extended build times, no more losing motivation, no more excuses gentlemen (and ladies of course…) … the 2010 F1M SPEED-BUILD has arrived!
Here are the details:

Theme

Formula 1

If it’s F1 of any kind then it qualifies. I figure if this build goes well we’ll likely have another one or two before year end, so the theme can change. I’m considering making the theme for any future build like this one as “Anything That Rolls”, or perhaps “Anything That Races”.

IMPORTANTPartially Completed Kits Qualify: It should be noted that a kit can be entered in any stage of the building process, you don’t have to start from scratch. If you’ve got a kit that you just can’t get the motivation to finish, but is “almost there”, well hopefully this build will kick start you into action. To further clarify, even if you only have to glue the wheels onto an otherwise finished kit, it still qualifies.

Start Date

December 26, 2009 – Boxing Day

The Speed-Build (SB) will start on December 26, 2009 (yeah I know, not technically 2010). I figure at this time many of you will be on holidays and have more time, and maybe you’ve also scored some very cool kits for Christmas that you want to get started on right away.

Duration & End Date

At least 11 weeks

Some of you will get multiple kits done during this time frame, although many of us will have to work hard to complete anything with only 11 weeks. If this time frame doesn’t work we can always amend it for future builds. HOWEVER… remember there’s the random extension to come into play…

Randomised Extension

11 weeks not enough for you…?
Well, how about an additional time period of between 2 - 5 weeks!

Using one of the randomising tools at http://www.random.org I’ll make a list of 2, 3, 4 and 5 weeks, randomise it, and the time period at the top of the list is the extension granted to us for the SB.

Perhaps you’re close to finishing but not quite close enough, and are hoping for a long extension… perhaps you’ve already finished and are wondering if the extension will be long enough to get one more build in…

You’ll just have to wait for the extension to be posted to find out!
Extension posted 10 days before the initial 11 week period is to end.

Relevant Dates

26 December : Speed-Build start

3 March : Announcement of random extension (added to 11 week initial period)

13 March : End of original 11 weeks (not really relevant)

TBA : Official end of 2010 F1M Speed-Build to be announced

How to get Started

Start by posting what you plan to build in this thread. Please limit postings to one picture either of the kit (the box/parts) you plan to build or the kit in its current half completed state.

Final Points to Note

If not already available, I’ll ask Eric (or a Moderator) to open us a 2010 Speed-Build sub-forum and you can post all of your progress and completed threads there.

At the very end I’ll start a SB Highlight thread where we can all post three pictures of each build we completed.

To clarify a final point, there’s no points or places in this build, it’s just a motivational tool for all of us to get something finished, and/or challenge ourselves to see how many we can get done in the allotted time period.

Make it a good turn out on this one!!!
Thanks all.

P.S. Also a big thanks to Eric/F1M and the moderators!

Thanks for organising this CaptainMark. I'll commit to one build during the speed-build period. I need something like this to convince myself that I can push one out this quickly. I'm not quite sure what it will be just yet but it could be the Fujimi F187/88 if it arrives in time.
I really like this idea. Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Tony

Yippee! I have a partially restored Leyton House CG901b that I've needed a push to get finished! I'll post a pic soon. I think I should be able to get another restoration done as well...and then... :D

I'm going to add on my first 1/43 kit of a Minardi M189 (hasn't arrived yet) and a Merc CLK-GTR (Original Teile version) that I started quite a while ago, just lost ambition with problems in painting it...

(I'll get pics up sometime, I promise...)

I'm definitely in!!
I've not completely decided what to build, but the candidates are:
1/20 S27 Stewart Ford SF3
1/20 S27 McLaren Mercedes MP4/11
1/20 S27 Williams Toyota FW30
1/20 Tamiya Bennetton B188

Let the consternation begin!! :D
Cheers,
Chris

OK, I'm joining this one too. Here's my challenges for the allotted time...

Fix the BAR: this wing has needed mending for AGES. Perhaps now I'll get it done.

Modelers Jordan J199: not yet started.

The eagle-eyed of you may notice that the Jordan yellow is actually for the J198, not the 199. However test painting has shown it's close enough for me.

Cheers!

Good price on the Jordan Mark !
I must say that this has already motivated me to get the job done with my current build (Benetton B188), so that I can start afresh on Boxing Day. Whatever it is, it will be from 1988.
Cheers

If it was a "slow build" contest I would have joined. Takes me forever to prepare those kits for painting. And
then there is polishing and CF work. No speed builds for me, sorry.
