Re: GB 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
Hello All,
OK, first big failure of the build.
I took the decision to paint the BadYears on the tires, so I sanded off the molded lettering, and got a set of p.e. templates from Acu-Stion. Got the tires all prepped, a layer of sealer on the sidewalls to lay the paint on, and my first try looked like this....... So, I've given up on this. I'm now gonna poach a set of tires from a kit in the closet, sand off the road contact surface and hand-paint the letters as is. Disappointed, but far from the end of the world.
Cheers,
Chris

It doesn't look that bad to me.
Can you rub the paint back & re-try?

Thats a good first effort - I did my BT50 wheels about 10 times and many tantrums before I had something good.. I airbrushed flat white acrylic and nearly used a whole bottle! (small one)

OK, you gentlemen have convinced me to give it another try.
I think they can be stripped down and reshot.
I'll let you know how it turns out.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: GB 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
Take a good look at pics of the real tyres from that era, their stenciling wasn't that good either! Your first try may be a lot more accurate than you think!
Re: GB 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
..leave them as they are..pay more attention to details on photographs from the 60s and 70s and you will see that
they had NO perfect paint jobs.Tyres were also painted (in a hurry )with a stencil ...If you want your model to be real
than built it as if you were building a real car...BUT keep in mind that every small error will be 20 times larger in scale..

Re: GB 2009 : WIP Brabham BT46
Hello All,
Some more updates on the Brabham Alfa Romeo BT46. As slow as I was moving, once I got the small bits completed the assembly has been moving along at a rather rapid clip.
I've installed the seat-belts and the remainder of the interior and the front shocks. For s&g I mounted the seatbelts to the chassis..........then covered them with the seat.
The engine is installed in the chassis, plumbed and wired. I need to attach two more wires and a couple of fittings and lines, which haven't been installed, so not much left on that. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
It turns out I may actually finish by the end of the season to make the deadline Amazing
Hope you all enjoy. Comments and feedback always welcome.
Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris, Looking really good, it's amazing how a kit that seems to take forever suddenly comes together, most of my builds are like this.
All the best,Alex.

Hi chris, looking good. You've made some rapid progress on the brabham. Like my F310B it's moving forwads. Nice detailing on the engine though. Good luck with your build.
