Less development time invested in a proportion kit. With such low production development/prototyping/tooling/instructions are a big chunk of their cost. Can't say this is a trend but these are probably more profitable and easier for the novice, as has been mentioned. With Hiro-san's passing no one is saying "Make this over the top because it's the way I would want to build it." They could do well just reissuing prior full-detail releases at this point. My $0.02.
