Looking for alloy wheels

Post by Seema »

Hello fellow model builders. I am looking for alloy wheels for the Tamiya 1:20 Ferrari F1-2001. They are available in silver and gold from Perfect Parts. I prefer the silver version but wouldn't say no to the gold either. Maybe someone else has them at home and doesn't need them. I would be happy about a contact.

Hi Martin I wouldn't worry too much about these wheels. They are not realistic. The real ones are not polished/shiny. They are/were painted, so if you paint the kit parts with Alclad you should be good.

Hi Jaykay, thanks for the info. I was told that the kit rims are incorrect. You should have too much or too little spokes. I haven't been able to control it myself, but that's sorted out now.

I think the kit wheels are correct, the 10 spoke BBS alloys. The F2002 on the other hand went to a 7 spoke design that looks much different, and some kits get that wrong.

I agree with JayKay. If you take the kit wheels, paint them Alclad polished aluminum over gloss black base, then clear gloss (or semi-gloss) you have a realistic looking wheel.

By the way, the Perfect Parts wheels are also not realistic looking. For the center spoke piece, they use a stamped/formed sheet of PE metal disc with spokes that don't have any depth to them. So they are not the best option anyway.

Hi Martin,
i think your pointing about wrong wheels belongs to the Revell 1:12 F2002 which has the wrong wheels, the Tamiya kits are fine and correct.
Anyway, i have such set in my stash, the brass version i might to remember. Jaykay and AJ are right about the colour, no bare alloy to see cause they have been painted, also about the spokes, it is an etched part with less depth, but looks sharper then the kit parts, so they are a bit of a compromise.
If you need pics, let me know and i take some and send them to you. ;)
Let`s go Brandon!

I guess he is talking about the fully mashined wheels...they do of course look spectacular but unfortunately the finish is wrong.
