Ferrari F1 2001 1/12

Post by ferrarissimus »

I started now another WiP of those unloved MG Model Plus Kits. Those kits are not comparable with MFH or Tamiya kits, but if you want to fill existing gaps in Ferrari F1 car collection, you have no alternatives.
Shape of the car is O.K. Cast is better than that of the F1 2000, I showed in my last WiP. The interior is a little bit more detailed, so I think I can get not a closed version.

Like other MG models the 2001 needs some major improvements. Especially the wall thickness of the diffusor needs some corrections.

As I said before, I will build the car with a detachable cowling, to show the motor and cooling system. Therefore You need a reliable attachment between cowling and body. I glued 4 small tubes in the body and 4 corresponding pins in the cowling. This is also necessary to sand the steps between both parts.
You can see, that some of the panel lines are filled with putty, because they are too wide.

On the next photos you can see wide gaps between body and cowling,

Gaps are filled with styrene strips and a lot of sanding

I am doing the same thing in white metal on the 1/24 Tameo WIP thread that I've just started to update. It's amazingly time consuming to get all these filler strips accurately done with precision. But when you have gaps this large, it's a much more stable way of doing it where putty would be impossible to get completely square and solid.

Great job so far -
