Some time ago I posted this link to a youtube video regarding a different matter:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dizZIX63ZSc

There is a shot of Philippe Streiff at 3:54, where he climbes up a ladder and walks past the camera at the 1985 European Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. I always found this scene so sad considering his accident in 1989 and the consequences which stayed with him for the rest of his life.

I don't know how good he was in comparison to Jonathan Palmer at Tyrrell, but his 1988 season with the little AGS team had a few remarkable performances. I think at Canada he was running in fifth position chasing Nelson Piquet when the suspension broke.

Rest in peace

I don't know what is more sad and scare, the drivers we meet when we were child and became a F1 fannatic are start dying or that we are getting each day more old...

RIP Streiff...

I second that. The heroes of my youth are passing away in alarming rate.

Good comment. I have known Fangio or Moss always much older than me ( I am 67), so their death was assumed in a natural way, but to see how old looks Alan Jones or Carlos Reutemann in his last months is depressing.
Philippe Streiff was a good enough driver to deserve a F1 wheel, which is quite meritorious. I want to think that he lived an enough happy life after his accident.

I think the relative lack of comments is due to getting speechless more than a lack of interest.
Philippe´s case was quite dramatic, and he kept on living with his limitations.
Besides I know people who had contact with him, and really tld about his joie de vivre, anyway two strong blows for french racing fans. Anyway in both cases it seems to have been an epected ending.
May they race in peace!!
