Tamiya Lotus 72 and Tyrrell 003 have the same engine sprue?

Post by Joaquin »

I have an incomplete Lotus 72 and a Tyrrell 003 for parts. Need to know if the engine parts of the Tyrrell are exactly the same than the 72 as I know that Tamiya have done different versions of the Cosworth engine.

If not, I'm looking for a Lotus 72 partially assembled for a good price, better in Europe to save customs fees

Thank you!!

The "C" tree is the same for all 1/12 Tamiya F1 with the V8 Cosworth engine, with the exception of the Lotus 49 and 49B.

Not quite. The engine parts may be the same, but the gearbox halves for the 003 are unique. The round side plates for the gearbox are molded in, while most other kits have holes in the sides that accept different plates, depending on brake caliper mounting. This may or may not be an issue for Joachim, but beware: all sprue C are not created equal.

It is still possible to order and 3D print the new gearbox from https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/ ... nd-gearbox . It is disassembled into many parts and is more accurate than the Tamiya. However, the scale needs to be changed, because the starting point is about 1/8
