Vinyl tubing source

Post by bossy122 »

Hello! Much like Carmen San Diego; where in the world can I find black vinyl tubing, around 1mm size? The best I can find is shrink tube and the shrink tube I have, they were clever enough to write all over it, so it's not very useful. Any pointers in the right direction would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you.

Bossy,

Think fly tying material - the type that trout fishermen use to tie flies.

There is a British company called Veniard who supply vinyl hollow tubing in several colours including black, in several diamters including 1mm outer diameter. I have used this product and can highly recommend it.

Do you search tubing like the Tamiya No. 12678?
Or are you looking for an inexpensive mass product?

Also available in 0.6mm diameter, if somebody needs a smaller diamater.
Maybe in transparent or yellow for fuel lines...

I use wire wrap wires most of the time.

They are readily available at electronic component store or on the web. The common sizes are between 30 AWG to 24 AWG. The diameter of the sleeve ranges from 0.5 mm to 0.8 mm, in step of ~ 0.1 mm increment. 30 AWG is the smaller one.

Common colors are black, red, blue, yellow, white, and grey.

The wire can be used with the copper wire to help holding the shape or just the sleeve without the copper wire. I also use just the wire for different diameter lines. They can be painted to the color that you want.

A roll of 50ft (~15 m) cost around 10 US$.
