I asked the question directly to AAR a few years ago. This is what they used for the restoration of chassis 104.
Glasurit Brand Paints - Metallic dark blue base # 5 4 - 6 M - 5 0 3 5 and Clear Coat 9 2 3 - 5 5
White (Roundels) 5 4 - M 2 5
White Pearl (body) 6 9 - M - 0 1 0 with the same clear coat 9 2 3 - 5 5
From my “Scale Models” article from years ago on mixing racing colors (with Tamiya paint), they suggest for A.A.R. Blue as:
4 parts aluminum + 3 parts royal blue, and then clear coat

Re: Best Eagle Weslake Blue Color
Hi Paul,
Thanks a lot for the paint information.
It is be better if Tamiya enamel paint is used. I think X-11 silver is better than XF-16 flat aluminum. Tamiya's enamel X-11 silver paint's particle size is much smaller than the ones in their acrylic line.
I use SNJ chrome power to make metallic paints myself. The power particle size is very fine and give the metallic paint a better scale effect for the metallic flakes.

Wow, very good info. So XF-16 (or X-11 per CK's recommendation) + X-3. Royal blue seems pretty close by itself. I'm also looking at the MCW site and they have a ton of interesting colors.PJE wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:20 pm I asked the question directly to AAR a few years ago. I was leaning towards that color and may order it, but in some pics it seems to have a slight purple tint to it?
Ok, now I just need to order some paints and start testing on some plastic spoons.

I've used the MCW Gurney Blue and it was excellent. The metallic pigment was very fine.

Re: Best Eagle Weslake Blue Color
Thanks! I've been looking on their website and haven't found one called "Gurney Blue". When I search it comes up with hundreds of results (I'm probably missing something )Daryl_Huhtala wrote: ↑Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:17 pm I've used the MCW Gurney Blue and it was excellent. Do you have the paint code #? I'm wondering if it's this one: 2084 Dark Blue Met.

That's the one. I used for Gurney's McLeagle M6B and was very happy with it.

MFH recommends the spray Tamiya TS-53, and here you have the MFH model painted with a dedicated Gravity paint
