Display cases (acrylic) for models 1/12 or 1/20

Post by Reutemann »

Hello guys,
I am thinking about display cases for upcoming 1/12 projects (BT44B and so on)

Are there any hints, tips for display cases for reasonable price?
It seems the profi cases are horrible expensive?

Make your own. Been doing it for years. It takes a little time to learn, but the techniques are easy to master.

There is a plastic fabricator near me and they sell their scrap for $3 a pound. I dig through their scrap bin to find a piece large enough for my display(sometimes it takes two or three pieces, which you have to make sure are the same plastic). I then cut and polish the edge and glue it up. Quick and easy.

The most common adhesive is Weld-on, which they sell. I also use it for my model building. It is a solvent glue and works on most plastics.

I have a good blade on my table saw, that does a nice job of cutting the plexiglass. I learned some years ago how to flame polish the edges to get rid of the saw marks. This way I can make a display as large or small as I want and it looks as good as the "professional" ones.
