Re: 1/12 Tamiya Williams FW14B
Life keeps sticking it's nose in and screwing up my modelling time. I did end up with a new compressor for painting and a pin vise for drilling the bolt holes into the brake hats. The pin vise and a set of drill bits to give me the size I needed came from Lee Valley Tools. I love the place, but are they ever expensive $$$$. It did what I needed it to do and it will be used with a bunch of other kits that I have. Next step is to drill out the wheels so the hats and receivers will fit. Here's hoping it works.

Started to drill out the rims to fit the spindles and discs for the TVF1 Brake kit. Front of the rim gets drilled 0.156" and countersunk to fit the threaded spindle and nut. Back of the rim is drilled 0.220" so the cone on the brake hat fits into the back of the rim. Next step is to drill the pack of the rims so they will accept the mounting pins that will go on the brake hats.

Top-Studio has just released a very nice brake set. An alternative would not be necessary because yours look very good.
I also have two Williams with lots of accessories that I would like to build one day.
Will follow your progress.

Looking good so far.
As an aside, Williams did not use red wheel nuts, they used blue on the right hand side and grey on the left hand side.

The AlClad nuts I got from Thunder Valley with the kit are 3 red ones, and 1 blue one. The TVF1 Brake kit comes with 4 aluminum ones. I have a couple of options, buy some AlClad or don't worry too much about the complete accuracy of the kit.Chinamalc wrote:Looking good so far.

Thanks for the info though, I had been told they used Blue and red nuts.

Hi Crash,
Hope this helps.
I was looking for this picture to include in the previous post and only just found it, 1992 Suzuka. I have lots of pictures of each side, but only this one showing both at once! Malc.

Crashfasano, I am surprised that the ice is just forming now in December! Must have been pretty warm in November, so can see how you have been distracted.
I am following your build. I just completed my other project, cleaned my bench and going to get back and finish my Fw14b. It is really box stock, however I had to order new decals as the old Tamiya ones didn't work very well.

For what it's worth, I've just looked up a couple of close ups of the wheel nuts, and in my opinion, the non-blue ones look as if they're white!

No, they are light grey, compare the wheel nut with the white paint on the car or the white of the goodyear logo. M.Malcolm wrote:For what it's worth, I've just looked up a couple of close ups of the wheel nuts, and in my opinion, the non-blue ones look as if they're white!
