Alclad clear coats on White Metal Parts

Post by glank27 »

Am about to start my very first MFH kit, the 1/12 Ferrari 126C2 and am already nervous about the idea of building a kit with a different approach then a Tamiya kit.
With the 126C2 having a nice shiny monocoque, I have already decided that i will finely sand the white metal up to 12,000 grade and then seal for protection using perhaps a semi-gloss clear coat. Most accessable for me is Alclad Klear coats due to its availability in the country. I have seen that some have successfully used Tamiya clear coats on white metal parts, but Tamiya paint is not an option for me due to it being hard to find. As folr Alclad I never used there clear coats, so am a bit concerned if they will do the job right. Does it adhere to bare white metal? And what kind of primers must ideally be used on white metal parts which need the "usual" painting jobs?

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend a decent polishing job instead of sanding and cleacoating.

Look for something like this for an electro tool. Polishing discs and different polishing paste. Make sure when polishing that your part gets hot that you can hardly hold it with your bare hands. That's a simple rule if you want your shininess to last...

But at first you need a nice smooth surface but don't use coarse sandpaper becasue you will never get rid of those fine scratches when polishing.
