Amen! Professional sports is more about the show now than the actual game. I'd much rather watch the SCCA Runoffs.capri-schorsch wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 3:18 am The whole F1 thing has nothing to do with sport.
It's entertainment. Nothing more.
Will watch Motogp and Macau this weekend.
Which is more likely to happen at the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix?

I'd be furious if I spent $2000 for tickets only to be kicked out for part of the "show". On the other hand, they would probably see it better on TV. I was in Vegas for the NFL football game last weekend and got to see some of the track. The sight lines are not very good. There are high fences and lighting gantries all around the track. Maybe spectators in the top of the grandstands in the Sphere complex will have clear views but that is pretty much it. The strip views are not good at all.stubeck wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 7:58 amThey kicked out all of the fans, which is at best not good. They want to have this in the middle of the night for European fans, but then don't have the employees in place if there are any delays. I hope there is not any issues Saturday if we have similar delays where they have to kick fans out halfway through the race.

Here's the thing... there are sooo many unique aspects to this event/race/track that I would have been extraordinarily careful when it came to things like track safety...
but with the huge hype, marketing, and other garbage, I would not be at all surprised that they didn't do a decent job.
And unless they alter the layout, it'll always be the 'Dead Hog Ring' for me...
[Its also boring to race in the F1 Mobile racing game.]

It's not, though. The start time is 6am in the UK, 7am in Germany. It's only a 'decent' time for India, China, Japan and Australia. The problem is, they clearly decided they want to run it at night, so you can see the lights, and then shoehorned everything else around that. Like, EVERYTHING, right down to the whole "we want to make F1 bigger in the US, so lets hold more races there, including one where everyone will be asleep."
The whole thing to me smacks of a cynical desire to make as much money and spectacle as possible, without ever stopping to wonder if anything they were doing actually made sense. And I've got to say, I'm waaaay over hearing people in the F1 world talk about improving 'the spectacle' while completely ignoring the sport (you know, the actual product). I follow a few other sports that have had their ups and downs and pondered how to increase popularity and invariably the conversation revolves around improving the actual game, or else getting more eyeballs if they feel they already have a quality product. Nobody but F1 obsesses over "the spectacle" over the game.
Also, I hadn't bothered to look at the track before and OMG Eric is 100% right!

Je ne regrette rien.

Thank you very much for spelling Wile E Coyote correctly. That is all.

I just got my first look at this ..... thing.....in practice 3 and had to laugh when I could BARELY see any of the Strip through all the ad bridges for communist beer. If I didn't know where they were, I'm not sure I would have guessed. What a HORRIBLE ad for the city of Las Vegas. And then I find out the race is starting at 10 PM local time? The hookers will not be happy about that.

I live a few hours from Vegas, and if you’ve even taken a helicopter over the strip at night, then you know why they are racing at night. It’s stunning. TV cannot do that view justice. The track is big and wide with runoff, so let’s give it’s a chance. We still watch Monaco, and will as long as it’s on the calendar.

But apparently Monte Carlo knows how to secure their manholes.
