2001 Chex Party Mix Dodge
When Petty Enterprises unloaded the #43 Dodge at Atlanta in the fall of 2001, it was a solid Petty Blue Intrepid with Chex Party Mix sponsorship on it. Unfortunately, things went much as they had the majority of that season. John Andretti qualified the car back in 35th and finished in 25th.
As for the Intrepid kit, well, I'll just echo what Drew Hierwarter wrote about it in the August 2002 Scale Auto:
"I believe this "new" kit from Revell is a step backward."
The first thing I did was reduce the thickness of the body, particularly around the front wheel openings. All the ejector pin marks had to be sanded and filled (there were quite a few). The kit glass from three different kits was cut apart and the best of the windows were installed separately. I replaced the kit wheels and tires with the parts from a '96 Pontiac which also donated its dash panel. The tire logos are Shabo transfers. A new firewall was formed from sheet styrene and pedals were made from soda can aluminum and attached to AMT pedal stalks. The same AMT kit donated the brake rotor/calipers. Dash switches are straight pins, the seat was updated with sheet styrene, Grandt Line hardware, and a photoetched belt set. The wired ignition boxes are from an old Regal and I added Detail Master photoetched hood pins and a masking tape net with Detail Master hardware. The fuel filler, spoiler braces, front valance, and side skirts were scratchbuilt and Grandt Line hardware was once again utilized. The steering wheel was wired with a length of painted copper wire and the steering column is styrene rod with some shrink tubing for padding.
John's helmet was hung from the roll cage on a short piece of wire. Paint is a mix of Tamiya X-14 Sky Blue with a few drops of X-28 Park Green and was then topped with Future. It looks more accurate in person, trust me. Decals are JWTBM.
As always, thank you for looking,
G
Party time!

Nice build, but the rear spoiler stays look very chunky?
Re: 2001 Chex Party Mix Dodge
That's really nice - fabulous finish on there.
I have to say, the photo settings are effective - the mirror based ones look like the garage shots in GT5!
Good work sir!
cheers

Agree with the others...those are some great photos of your model...which is very nice too of course!
I haven't built a NASCAR kit yet, although I do have a couple in my stash. Your build is tempting me to get them out!!
Cheers
