Porsche 917/10, MMM, 1/24

Post by MarcoSaupe »

Hi,

finished another one, in my favourite livery ;)

Capri-Schorsch offers his 917/10 also in 1/24th, and I got one of them. Easy to build, you have to be a bit careful on the thinner spots, as the material is a bit brittle, but the printing quality is good enough to make those kits in 1/24; the biggest difficulty was cutting a fitting front screen out of transparent sheet. Now where can I find the time to design the kits I want that nobody makes...

When applying the decals I realized I made a mistake with the choice of the original car - the Martini 917 wasn't a 917/10, but it had a 917/30 front with a 917/10 rear. However when looking over the net it's called sometimes a 917/20, sometimes a 917/30 (which I think it officially is, though with a smaller engine) and several slot/die cast models also made the same mistake - fortunately I'm not a rivetcounter, and even famous museums mislabel their cars much worse, so I'm fine. At least it's a Martini Racing car ;)

When looking at the photos I think I have to tone down the tire decals a bit, in reality it's hardly noticeable.

Painted with Aclald Aluminium, blue and red areas with TS paints mixed by eyeballing, Mr. Super Clear on top, Scalegrafixx decals and some small parts out of the spares box.

Hope you like it.

Marco,
wow, that looks amazing and the paintjob is super nice as well! I've been told that silver is among the most difficult colours to put on a car as every small mistake will show (somehow). The engine peeking out the back and the tubular chassis all add a nice level of detail to the car. Maybe I should get the 1/12? uhoh. Big scale 917 count++ ;)

As for the actual car - I would have to dive into my archives, but wasn't this one of the cars that ran in the "Interserie"? Comparable to the Vaillant 917/10 that had both the nose we see here and the more rounded one of the CanAm Sunoaco 917/30 (Donohue). And then there's the 917/30 Jaegermeister (also Interserie)... yeah. Slice and dice was the name of the game then, I guess :)
Cheers,
Roman

Hi Marco,

Whether it is accurate or not, it is a beautiful 917.

Yes, silver is a difficult color to paint. Not only it shows all the imperfections, it is almost impossible to do touch up.

It is a very nicely done model.
