Model Art magazine MP4/2 special issue coming
Japan's Model Art magazine will be releasing a special issue, centered mostly on the Aoshima / Beemax MP4/2 soon. Mr Kawaguchi (Finisher's Paints) is making a Tamiya Benetton B192 to be photographed as "background filler" for the special issue, even as I write this, and it needs to be ready for the cameramen in another week. So the magazine should be out in another month or two. The MP4/2 building tips and photographs alone should be instructive, even for non-Japanese.

The great thing about a new F1 kit is all the spin-off. Special magazines are developed. Reviews are done in different magazines etc.

Yup, now confirmed. The Aoshima / Beemax MP4/2 special issue (no cover picture yet) will be the one you linked to, Claw. It's advertised in back of this month's Model Art with an August 24 release date in Japan, and will be their "October" issue. (Yes, yes, I know it's confusing. They date their magazines two months in advance, so they seem "newer" and have a longer shelf life.) The entire issue will be devoted to F1 kits, and the MP4/2 mostly.TheHoodedClaw wrote:One presumes this is it : http://www.hlj.com/product/MDAMAG1510/Boo

Hi Eagle50,
thank you very much for the new about MP4/2.
One curiosity : why the japanese model magazines don't have an english version of their wonderful magazines ?
Thanks for your reply,
Giovanni La Rosa

Well, probably lots of reasons.glr190959 wrote:... why the japanese model magazines don't have an english version of their wonderful magazines ?

One: the trouble it would take to translate each article, in each issue, into English (or Chinese or Italian, etc.).
Two: there are already other English language modelling magazines.
Three: finding a distributors overseas that you can trust. You'd have to move your magazine product through established book-sellers, and outlets overseas -- people who can put the magazine on store shelves. And you'd have to find printers overseas, to save shipping costs from Japan (magazines are heavy). And all that would involve lots of negotiations and lawyers. Even then, you have no control over the finished product, when someone else makes the magazine. It might come out in a format that you think tarnishes your image.
All this happened with Japan's Newton Science Magazine (which I was involved with for a few years). Newton pulled out of the Chinese, Italian, Australian and Taiwanese print markets because it was too much trouble, for the relatively small commission they were getting to provide content. And their product was being turned into a fashion magazine in some countries, with adverts for clothing, watches and dating services, which they didn't want.

Re: Model Art magazine MP4/2 special issue coming
Just saw the latest edition of Model Art. It's not "dedicated" to the Aoshima MP4/2, as we were led to believe. About half is devoted to F1 kits, and half of that (about a quarter of the magazine) is devoted the new MP4/2. Model Art left some room for an aircraft carrier and some other recent kits, in the back. Guess they didn't want to put all their eggs in one basket.
Still, there's a good review of the Aoshima MP4/2, and goes over how best to build one. I'll be getting a copy.
Cheers, Chris
