Emmo also wanted to get past Jr. because he still had one more stop to make, whereas Al had made his final stop.

Right, the winner would still have to beat the other Penskes.
Re: 1994 Indy 500
It's an iconic race for me. I was in the US (Yes!! ) that winter and had a chance to buy and read magazines (that were not available in Spain) about it. Dull as it might be, I suppose it's one of those matches that are decided in a split of a second, apparently, but yet there's a lot behind. Like those football 90 minutes (or even 120) that are decided by a single goal.
Yes I suppose that the Penske was a handful in a certain way. It had soooo much horsepower so some compromises had to be accepted, and as it's well known, a similar car but with so much less power, the following year was unable to qualify...
Anyway the car was far from bad elsewhere, and the red-and-white boys massacred the opposition.
Nevertheless I feel for Emmo. He was probably past his best before date by then, but hed never be the same after that shunt. It'd have been interesting to see the rest of the season, had Fittipaldi won Indy...

I always thought '94 balanced out '89 well between Emmo and Al Jr.
