GB WIP. 1977 Tyrrell P34 Belgium GP. Last pieces.
So I started on another six wheeler, this time a blue and white one. I don't super detail my builds but it seems like I add another small detail for every build.
Inspired by Chris Lotus 72 I decided to rebuild the distributor cap in a similar manner. I didn't manage to drill out plastic rods to hold the wires so I choose another path.
Small brass tube. I made a drill template in brass and drilled holes for the tube in plastic card that I later glued to the top of the distributor. It am curious if it will look any different to the standard Tamiya version when placed on the engine. The cap is visible on a P34
My previous aversion against the Cosworth DFV seems to have vanished. Now I actually enjoy building them.

Looks neat. Be interesting to see how it looks in place.

Well I'm not sure what to think about the reworked distributor cap. It isn't very visible.

Can just see it and it does look better. You know it's there anyway. I might give your technique a try next time I make a DFV. As an aside, on your recently finished P34 did you paint/stencil the tyre markings? I thought they looked really good. I did ask on your previous posting but you maybe missed it.

Sorry about that. Yes they are painted using stencils from Acu Stion. I tried to sand the raised lettering off the front wheels but it was impossible to those old tires. Instead I used Ethyl Acetate to melt it away. I normally glue plastic with it. The rear wheels still have the raised lettering. I sprayed the letters over them so they don't match entirely but I have seen pics of real tyres with the same fault so I just let it be.
If the distributor cap would have been Bakelite red it probably would have been more visible. I think that the cables "run" better (looking more neat) with this cap.

Almost finished with the drive line. The work on my SAAB Sonett is taking time from this build.
I did learn that the 1977 Tyrrell's had angled ends of the exhaust pipes so I have to fix this.
I applied heat to the end and flattened it before cutting it off and reattaching it in an angle

Re: GB WIP. 1977 Tyrrell P34 Powerpacks done
Two sets of twelve cylinder funnel mesh is enough for three Cosworth DFV engines.
Now I have to look into the tubing to the rear radiators and start painting the bodies.

Re: GB WIP. 1977 Tyrrell P34 Belgium GP Powerpacks
I always enjoy your WIP Björn especially the useful build tips. 2 packets of mesh domes for 3 engines seems so obvious now that you've written it!
