Desktop lamp advice request...

Post by Mr.Grumpy »

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to replace my old model room desk lamp and wanted to reach out to the group for advice. I seem to remember a thread years ago on this topic but could not find it.

My priorities in order are:
1. Quality
2. Reasonable priced/good value
3. Not ugly

Please share your recommendations if you have any, or anything to stay away from. Thank you!

I use this one and I'm very satisfied.
I mounted it on the table as shown in the pictures, but there is also a wall bracket.
The diameter of the magnifying glass is very large, the lighting is great and can also be switched on and off in segments.

LUMENO 8243PRO magnifying lamp, LED, Ø 177 mm real glass lens, 3 dioptres, dimmable

If you are just looking for lighting, I got one of these several years ago for my lathe work station. I love it. I can adjust the intensity and the color to get the best possible view. With it's length it virtually eliminates shadows. Not cheap but for me it was well worth the money.

Thank you for your input and images! I will look into both options. The Lumeno seems to be the happier of the two options

I remember the topic and it has been LED panels which can change colour`s and light intention, they are great cause the wrong light can hurd your eyes over time.

Just one comment and the first poster can tell of his experience. I had the one with a magnifier for many years and found the lens to be an absolute pain! Having to move the lens into position each time I used it, and having it between me an my work just wasn't practical. I suppose it would be fine if you where working on very tiny pieces in a fixed spot on the bench, but where you are moving the model around and turning pieces over, the optivisor was just better for me. I eventually gave up on it and used an optivisor for magnification and the round light for illumination. I was never so happy as when the light gave out and I could get that clunky thing off my bench.

Same to me Pete, the lens was a disaster to use and i throw out the lamp and since then i also you a magnifier which makes life much more comfortable and work easier.

I have two different opinions, but I still have to say that I would buy it again. It is certainly true that the magnifying glass is very large and sometimes a bit annoying when it is between you and the model.
But the magnification speaks for itself and that's exactly what I use it for! On the other hand, because it is also flexible, you can turn and swivel it in any direction and that's what makes it so special.
Sometimes I just use them as a light source.
But if I need to move parts and don't really need an magnifying option, then I can turn them sideways and have enough room for assembly or other stuff.
So all in all I have to say I would buy them again.
I also have to say that as far as I can tell, I can't find any qualitative defects so far.
Greetings Thomas
