Tamiya Ferrari 312T - Air Box

Post by SBEST »

Just asking.

Is any of the 3d developers planning on producing a 3d printed correction for the Tamiya 312T Airbox? The angle is wrong on the kit version.

The only 312T from Tamiya is in 1/12 scale so it should be that one.

Looking at these pictures:

I get the feeling that the top of the air-intake is too rounded on the kit, I also think that the "rear wall" is off on the kit. When it goes from red to white the angle seems to change on the kit while it look like a straight line on the real thing.

Sorry this was my mistake, I skipped over "Tamiya".

I recently tested something with scanning existing models. I had done the test with figures and wanted to test how good such a scan is. Possibly this would also be something to scan the basic shape and then to be able to model/change it.
The problem with me would be, as always, with the 1/12 scale - I don't own any models because it's just not my scale

There is another major problem with the Tamiya cowling, you can see it in Orso`s picture, the cowling does not fit realy. Something underneeth, maybe roll bar or whatever is too high and has contact to the cowling. You have to press it down, otherwise it does not fit and pop off. So even with the Tamiya part as base, it should be hard to create a fitting cowling cause you need a build up model beside to check the fitment. Not an easy task!
When i build this model years ago i had that problem too, still have another kit laying around but not build and before it`s not build up, there is no chance to check the fitting issue or even doing changes on it.
Take a stand!

I don't have a complete car to spare. I have the airbox (white portion) I can spare for someone to take this project on. Just PM me.

Why don't you use a sanding stick for the rounded shape on the top and some putty for the wrong angle?
That would be the easiest solution in my mind.
Creating that part from zero and create a good fitment it's way harder I think.
