Studio27 Lotus 87 JPS problem
Hello my fellow modeling friends. I have a bit of a problem building the Lotus 87 JPS from Studio27. I painted the body and wings a while ago in Lotus F1 black from Zero paints and clear it with there 2k clear. So far so good. It’s a rebuild for a friend of mine who bought it build and asked me to build it for him. No problem. I stripped all parts with out any issues and cleaned the metal parts with my magnetic polisher. The body was stripped with non acetone nailpolish remover and sanded and cleaned and painted again like i mentioned earlier. Now the problem is that the chrome decals from the new sheet are cracked and unusable, so have to mask the area’s, so i can airbrush the Firescalemodeller Chrome. That’s where the problem begins. I don’s have any instructions or good reference pics to start masking, so scanned a copy of the decals and made templates, so i could make the masking a bit easier. Now it started masking yesterday and the templates don’t line up. I cutted them correctly with a very sharp scalpel knife to have a and measured them with the chrome decals. No problems there. On the few reference pictures i have i can see that the vents on the sidepods are also chrome, but not on the outside. Also. The vents seems to open more towards the front and that’s where my issues is at the moment. The don’t line up. Also the ventilation pieces on the vents are smaller. I think about 1mm off. So how do i fix it. Do i attach them to the floor or at the top of the vents? Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Best regards,
Lesley

Hi Lesley. I think I managed to follow the explanation, but simewhere before the finish line my brain derailed!!
I think the thing is about top and lower edge of the vent fins? not sure, so anyway, here go the pics I got from GPI.
MAybe you have them. Anyway, they're good stuff to share with everyone.

Re: Studio27 Lotus 87 JPS problem
Greetings Lesley, hope you are well?
Have you considered the option of using Bare Metal Foil instead? If you apply it onto a perfectly smooth surface it can be clear coated and polished to look very much like chrome.
Cheers, Paul

Would some tailored chrome decals help?

Re: Studio27 Lotus 87 JPS problem
Thanks guys. I think i’m going to mask off the area’s that needs to stay black and airbrush the chrome. Am also thinking of replacing the vents with copper sheet ones made to size and painted black and 2k clearcoated
Best regards,
Lesley
