Hello all. After almost 15 years I'm about to pick up F1 modeling again. Together with my 8 year old son I'm looking at some possible projects.
Looking at the most recent F1 cars, I've noticed the cars finish is more semi gloss or flat like.
If chosing between Mr Hobby Topcoat flat or semi gloss, what would you advice resembles the most realistic effect?

Probably flat, but you can try experimenting with mixing gloss and flat at various ratios to get more precise control over the finish

I would highly recommend the Alclad finished. They have different ranges from matt to gloss. The lightsheen could look great !? I't some kind of semimatt/gloss/whatever you would call it. They are also very easy tro use with an Airbrush.

I usually mix my own ratio combining flat clear with gloss clear. You have total control over how shiny it is that way and you can thin as you see fit.
I always use Gunze lacquer clear in the little jars (I think 10ML size).
Mr. Clear it is called.
It would depend on what car you are trying to make; some are still kind of shiny; some are very flat!

Re: Mr Topcoar flat or semi gloss on current F1 car
Thanks all. Flatt it will be.
Andrey, the RB15 looks stunning and the flatt finish looks perfect.
My son wants to make a 'looks like a SF90' version of the Ebbro MP4/30. I picked up a set of museumcollection SF90 decals. Going to do only small modifications + halo, so the decals and flatt finish is most important.
His idea to do a project like this apealed to me. So still looking for a project of my own. Maybe a 'classic' livery on an Ebbro MP4/30 or MP4/31. Not sure yet.
