If you could build any one of these mid 70's cars which would you choose??
Re: If you could build any one of these mid 70's cars which would you choose??
Well it looks we're unable to answer these polls without having in mind the chance to convince someone to make a kit, are we?
It was easy for me to answer without thinking what's available or not at which scale. Simply, for their historical importance and the fact they are nice to me, Hunt's Hesketh, Jonesy's FW06, and the first Renault aka "the yellow tea pot".
It's nice to test ourselves from time to time and ask what I would make "boom like that, built" if I could? one way to test myself is checking if I feel excited about the prospect of having one car at 1/12. I guess those are the ones I like best...

I think a Mexican company called Classic Museum Models used to do a 1/12 Hesketh, but I haven't seen them on ebay for a long time.

I voted Williams FW06, didn't give any regard to cost, construction media etc, it's just a damn fine looking race car that deserves to be kitted.

Each one of these cars would make for an interesting model in my opinion.
I voted for the Shadow DN5 and the Parnelli VPJ-4 simply on the basis of sex appeal. I like the livery of both cars very much and the Parnelli actually has an alternate livery that is just as striking as the Viceroy livery. The third vote from me was for the Fittipaldi FD04 again because I like the livery.
The Hesketh surly would make a great model based on historical value.
The Lotus 76 is an interesting design study even if it didn't obtain much in the way of results. The twin rear wing alone is very cool and the car bridges the gap between the Tamiya 72 and the MFH 77.
The Surtees while not much in the way of performance can be talked about, it was just a cool looking car. Along the same lines as the BT44B and there are a number of liveries one could pick from.
The PC4, well, what more needs to be said about an American icon in the name of Penske. It is also an attractive looking car made even better in the ATS or Interscope livery.
The FW06 was one of my earliest memories of F1 having watched Alan Jones man handle it around the streets of Long Beach as a kid. This is the car that started it all for Frank Williams and as Daveyman says just deserves to be kitted or in my case built. I always thought and FW06 could be obtained from a Tamiya Wolf WR1 rather nicely.
The Tyrrell 008 is another car I just thought had so much going for it in the looks department. It is clear that in no way was this a development from anything else previously designed by Derek Gardner after the P34 wreckage of 1977.
The Renault is another I had the pleasure of watching on the streets of Long Beach. Such a different sound at the time in contrast to the Matra V-12 of the Ligiers. And in terms of historical significance it can't be anymore important than this car.
And the March, Robin Herd and the gang. For me just one of those cars that was so ugly it has to be in my collection some day though I would prefer a 721 driven Niki. I got confused when making the pole.

1974 Iso M@r!b*r*
1971 Surtees TS9
1971 Surtees TS7
1974 Ferrari Spazzaneve

Good choice! The front wing is such an odd shape it makes the hole car very cool looking in my opinion.racingkars wrote: ↑Mon Jan 25, 2021 1:54 am Ok, then the March 711.

I picked the Shadow, though I have the S27 kit. The other 2 were the FW06 and the 008, both of which I believe are neglected in 1/20.

When you look at these cars, it is amazing how old-fashioned and even ungainly, they all look alongside the Lotus 79! Still the Shadow is a thing of beauty and I had a Hesketh Teddy Bear sticker on my satchel at school so I have to tick those boxes. Few of them won a race but that FW06 was seriously fast and started a dynasty - so that got my third vote.

Actually Studio 27 did the 008 and Wolf Kits did the FW06. I have them both. All are great choices!!
