Has anyone had the experience of changing their seller options per Ebay request?
They are asking for personal info that I am surprised about.
Any insight why this change came about?

Since most peoples ebays account are protected by passwords such as "password123!" and there is a lot of damage one person can do when having guessed anothers password, its not super surprising they would ask verification questions.
It'll help if you give some more details, such as what the seller option change was, and what the personal info they were asking was.

Ebay is managing payments now. As seller you will only get payments if you provide a bank account as well as your social security number.stubeck wrote:Since most peoples ebays account are protected by passwords such as "password123!" and there is a lot of damage one person can do when having guessed anothers password, its not super surprising they would ask verification questions.

My understanding it may take longer to receive payments in the future with this option. Of course it is not cheaper.

This makes sense, they're doing it to protect themselves. eBay was already essentially managing payments with Paypal but had to move away to make it so they weren't essentially charging twice as ebay owned or may still own Paypal.

Well, they migth tell you to change something by email, but then your real name is always included in message header.SBEST wrote:stubeck wrote:As seller you will only get payments if you provide a bank account as well as your social security number.

And if message comes from ebay, that message should also be in your ebay messaging envirnoment.
Also, if you need to change something, they surely wouldn't ask you to send personal data by email, but you would need to log in into your ebay account and changes settings there.
I would'nt press any link in the message if not 100% sure, and even if you do/did, and land on a page that looks like ebay, make sure it IS ebay.
Then go ahead & give them the right to go even deeper in your pockets. That's what those messages are usually about.
If message content promises to make it cheaper, it's not ebay.
