1/12 Tamiya Re20 conversion?
1/12 Tamiya Re20 conversion?
Hi all, Is it possible to convert the Tamiya 1/12 re20 into the early 1981 car? I think it’s an re30? Does anyone have any info on this as it would be a good project. Thanks Chris
Re: 1/12 Tamiya Re20 conversion?
Hi!
That's a project I am working on. But as usual with me, dont hold your breath!
Yes sure it's possible. A "light" version would include:
-Wheels, with 15" fronts, 13" rears (check)
-decals (check)
-New nose (in process)
-New side pods (in process)
It's probably an uglier car, and with sparse pedigree, bar Prost's early season podium (first of his, BTW). But interesting and achiavable.
Yes there would be minor details apart from what I said, but basicly...
And no it's not the RE30. This one was presented in Zolder. And despite some early test versions quite similar to RE20, it eveolved (quite a lot) into something quite different, basicly a more angular "prequel" of 1982 RE30B. It had a different tub with quite different shapes, so forget it. I even tried it back in 1982, to no avail...
LA Regie kept naming their cars by the particular chassis number: RE23, RE24, RE26B, not a generical RE20/00x style. Though it was admitted and assumed tacitly the 1980 car was the RE20, and the early season 1981 one was the RE20B.

Sounds good James will wait for an update...
Re: 1/12 Tamiya Re20 conversion?
I am still working on this one. good fellow member reminded it to me, as it´s a timely thing with the Renault re'release.
Good to see I "only" left it stranded for a year!!
