Ford GT40
Hi everyone. I'm thinking of finishing my 1/12 Ford GT40 as 'battle damaged'. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to reproduce gaffer tape in 1/12 scale?
Re: Ford GT40
Perhaps surgical tape? It has a subtle pattern and can be painted if needed.

Or some very thin masking tape. I saw something like that in the DIY story recently. It is thinner than the Tamiya tapes. And of course paint the lot after cutting into strips. I think it was called painter's tape or something (of course translated )
Cheers,

Re: Ford GT40
Why not use silver/black/grey... decal and cut to size (4mm)? I don't think the structure of the tape is visible in 1/12...
More important is how you lay them down (not necessarily flat but maybe wrinkled a bit) & emphasize existance of multiple lanes, make ends look torn, tear 1 or 2 lanes in length, use different lenghts alltogether, have some dog ears (showing white-ish bottom color of tape), maybe make a end hanging loose or curled up a bit, add some weathering...
Oww, and i guess they should go on top of clear if any, i feel they usually are semi-gloss .
Maybe pics below get you inspired:
