Miami Track

Let’s talk about that track in Miami. Personally, I find it just awful. WTF were they thinking? I can’t tell where the freeway ends and the track begins, or the other way around. Overpasses…it’s just missing some train tracks.

I really don't think Liberty Media are trying to appeal to existing F1 fans, more the DisneyWorld crowd......

Must admit I actually like it, in memory of watching many of the CART races on road coarses in the mid 90s. Especially the clumsy turn 11-16 section is exactly that style, when F1 first came to Singapore they also had a messy chicane section (that was later dubbed the sling after it caught Kimi out).

It's the surface that bugs me.
It looks to be breaking up and leaving stone marbles outside the racing line.
Lots of red flags so far.

I dont know how and why this has to be hammered back into people's minds, but roads do not make great race tracks.
There is a reason why the racers of the 1950s abandoned roads (Pau, Reims, Bremgarten etc.) to replace with dedicated racetracks.

Looks nothing better than 80s F1 US gp's. Don't understand the hype.

I am not going to go out of my way to criticize this track. We have seen suboptimal layouts on many of the street circuits. However to me it used to seem worse really. Street circuits used to seem to dominate the old indy car series and I perceived that they were lots of concrete and 90 degree turns. That may not be correct but that was my perception. As far as the layout goes I watched a few minutes of Friday practice and I will await to see how the racing looks.

Kind of sad, but I don't think you will ever see another race at a real track unless it is next to a medium to big city in North America. That means Watkins Glen will never have another one because they want major hype and big hotels in the area. Camping does not make enough money for these big corporations. Forget about Watkins Glen or Road America type tracks and probably not Laguna Seca or Road Atlanta either. They might be able to have more than 3 races in the USA with that kind of thinking. People will come to gamble or party and have a nice race to watch also. Not very much about the cars as the spectacle. Back when I used to go to the USGP at Indy the crowds knew all about the cars and I understand most fans at the Glen F1 were big F1 fans, other than the drunk college kids. I wonder what the crowds are like at Miami ?

My old story about the 1998 Homestead FIA GT1 race still stands. That's almost in Miami and the place was a ghost town, but it was not promoted very well and not as a spectacle just a race to race fans.

I read news item where they mention repairs to the asfalt for the 2nd time. Even that sounds like in the 80s. Lets hope qualifiing and the race are good.
