We must pay an overpriced entry fee, we must buy over priced refreshments, we must buy vastly overpriced team merchandise, we must sit in a grandstand to make it look full on TV and finally we must remain seperated from the VIP's by a barbed wire fence but at the same time we must keep VIP's egos inflated by clamouring for autographs etc. I no longer attend Grand Prix meetings and I have no intention of doing so again.
The last race I went to was in the early 90's, it was about that time that 1 day grandstand tickets at Silverstone reached the £100 mark, at that point my wallet cried enough.
What you said above echoes my sentiments almost exactly, except I would like to go again, but it won't be till I win the lottery, because I don't foresee the prices ever coming down
Makes me languish for the old days when my dad used to take me to the races. Either he or a good buddy of his would have a couple of tickets to the corporate box. Three days of too much food, being close to the action, and all covered for free. *Sigh*
The funny part was all the bigwigs always left early to beat the crowds so typically I was the last person there when the race actually finished.
"Slow and Steady Wins the Race" - Who ever won a race with that strategy?
I recall a few years ago popping open the computer and seeing a post from Eric about the Yee Haw Grand Prix. Reading about the chance for an Austin Grand Prix made me smile, cuz I just knew it wasn't gonna happen. Well I have to admit I was very wrong. I made it out to the track today for the pit walk and wow do we have a fantastic track 30 miles from my front door. They say without pics it didn't happen so here are the pics.
One of the few times I wasn't grinning like an idiot, trying to telling my friend what button to push on the camera, and he found it early!
Going back out tomorrow and hope to meet a few folks from this forum there. Will report! Tim Keily
