Trumpeter in trouble with Ford GT40 1/12 license ?

Post by Maysula »

Hi
I wonder if any of you has more knowledge about this ? At my work we sell models among other things, today my model supplier
told me that Trumpeter must stop selling the 1:12 GT40 because of license problems, I don´t have any more info regarding this.
As a big 1/12 kit fan it´s bad news ..I hope this is not true.

I wonder if this is world-wide or just in certain markets.

I haven't seen one for sale at a shop or online retail shop for quite a while. Perhaps it is between issues and I suspect one doesn't carry a license when it is currently OOP. Really wish I'd grabbed the one I did see and hope we will see it again.

I believe Ford are pretty militant with licensing...

If I understand correctly, license issues are the reason why Tamiya has never re-released their Sierra Cosworth, Escort Cosworth and Focus kits.... They did a re-pop of the Escort Cosworth a few years ago, but it was privately commissioned by Domino in Belgium and sold without decals...

Not sure what the arrangement is with the all the kits containing DFV's though... Maybe a different story there, as that wasn't Ford's property per-se

Tamiya have re-released the Ford Zakspeed Turbo Capri recently which states its a Ford official licensed product on the box.

Its strange Tamiya have reissued that but not the Sierras/ Escort or Focus as they are all from the Ford family

the big question would be if the problem empacts trumpters ability to sell the kit. i would think that they have sold the heck out of the kit and can stand to let the thing go. now if they would do a mark II or IV or even a J car. there is money to be made

I remember the hoo-har Ford kicked up over Ferrari calling their F1 contender... F150!!!
Wasn't picked up until someone described as a being, like a Ford Truck on track as well
That's when Ford stepped in... SUE THE B******S!!! as Judge Judy says " Baloney "...
I've always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting, even when there's only a slightest chance.

Well,
I think is a shame as well, but was lucky enough to buy and build one.
Paid about £120 at the time.
It's a great kit but did have faults, some fit issues with the exhausts, the chrome plated parts, and the tires a bit too square.
Icon to the rescue!
All in all though a pleasure and probably made the existing kits double in price over night which is a bit frustrating if you wish to purchase.
Wish Trumpy had followed with a Ferrari or Porsche though! :D
