Yeah, my butt was clenching when I read that too, but it worked out great! Nice job.CBartholomew4677 wrote:Beautiful paint job. I was a little nervous when reading your WIP about the grey primer affecting the red, but it worked great . Very nice solution to the problem.

Re: MP4/4 SpeedBuild
So 9 days in; waiting for the paint to harden before clearcoat. did a little work on the engine bay (or whatever its called in F1). There are so many great build of this kit (and even a youtube tutorial) that I can't add a thing new, just some average box stock fun..

Re: MP4/4 SpeedBuild
Speed build has slowed down as my day job has sped up.... Am making an effort to include a Senna-like figure. Started by grinding and scraping the Tamiya driver that came with the F-189 kit. Once it fit I painted the body and arms with a mix of Tamiya flat red and orange acrylic, and the helmet with TS-16. After the red dried I added a few decals from the Tabu sheet and clear-coated, followed by a wash of burnt umber artists oil paint thinned with mineral spirits. The arms had to be glued in place after the torso was seated. I used some gap-filling CA and super glue accelerator to patch the gaps, then repainted with red. The fit is OK, and the figure is not, in fact, glued to the tub, so if I change my mind I can pull him out and just replace the seat.

Very nice build . Makes me wanna buy One. So, this re-release didn't include those big fluoro-red Decals to the bodywork, right?

Right- no flouro decals, no tobacco livery, no tire logos either a terrific kit nonetheless; worth the rather steep price.vekkuli wrote:Very nice build . Makes me wanna buy One. So, this re-release didn't include those big fluoro-red Decals to the bodywork, right?

Re: MP4/4 SpeedBuild
Done- All over but the gnashing of teeth over wrong decisions made.. I wish I had used a more accurate helmet (like from el Oso?)- the shape and size on this one seem off to me. Also somehow left a lot of tire seam on the rear- didn't notice 'till I looked at the photos. A very enjoyable 3-4 week project. Not sure what to build next- the 1:20 lotus 25 would be a nice change of pace from the more modern cars- no wings, no complicated paint or decals...Hmmm

Re: MP4/4 SpeedBuild
Excellent quick build of still the most dominant F1 car ever.
I think the issue with the helmet is the visor thickness.
