unobtainium digital

Post by Nick-edw »

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce what I think is a new concept for getting detail parts made.

Take a look at my new website https://unobtainium.digital and see what you think. Hopefully it is self explanatory.

OK so it's a virtual shop, but it is 2021!

Here are my two launch products both in 1/12th scale:-

Alfa 8C wire wheels for Italeri:-

Honda RA273 fully hollow exhaust for Tamiya:-

Very nice looking stuff. Just curious why you didn't make the wires printed on the 1/12th wheel. Someone in the USA already did 1/12th scale printed wheels just like that but the material used was strong enough to make the wires already printed and part of the wheel.

Depends on the wheels. For scale thickness for the Alfa 8C, which these are, printing is not robust enough, like this in fact:-

I did try it.

In the end printing the whole thing wasn't good enough for me. I also have been thinking about hatching and developing the system I use for a while.

Now it's proven it can be applied to a variety of subjects and scales, 1/8th for the Alfa wheels is an obvious choice for the Pocher guys and those things are heavy, printed spokes really wouldn't cut it for that, or at least not for long!

I was thinking the same thing in theory, but in practice the wires are thin and strong enough if you use the right printing material. I have a set and have also seen the Alfa 1/12th wheels used on a model and they are standing up well and look perfect. Jim Drew used a set on his Monza model. They look like real and are not breaking or warping.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback.
I will be shipping to the US, I literally launched my website today so my priority was to get up and running with the UK first.

I’ve already had many enquiries from the US and discussed with my accountant. It looks like US orders will be VAT exempt, postage will around £10, I just need to understand post-Brexit customs arrangements, so this is coming. Feel free to join my Facebook group and get involved - US shipping is coming soon!

Thanks

Nick
