You're just going to have to use a few of the 2nd source portals in the future and slip them a few extra bills, but I think those will remain and continue to access the auctions.

Well, it has always been a pain to deal with anyway :(
Sadly, the bidding sites such as buyee still work.
I have used Byee a few times, and it has always been great, if a bit expensive.

It's usually not worth it if it's only 1 individual kit, because you always have to deal with the transport costs.
In addition, EMS is currently not available from Japan and you have to use FedEx or DHL, which sometimes makes shipping twice as expensive!

Yes, it makes sense if you are buying a few expensive kits, but not if you are buying one or more cheap models.

Here is what I paid the last time. Fees, tax and shipping added another 1/3 to the purchase prices. If I had bought cheap models, the extras would amount to double the total!

I also make it dependent on shipping quantity and supply. I usually bundle a lot of items and also always have items that are difficult or impossible to get in Europe.

Dell Paling, Be-J, Hobby Base Cutoms, Thumb Creation, Chevron Models, Factory T'z, Nobuland, T-Model, AMC, and e.g. F.S.K Model are many such brands that you don't see elsewhere in Europe.
I also keep looking for kits/transkits that have been created in small numbers by private individuals - sometimes there are really great things there... ;)

But as I said the offer simply plays a major role. A simple Fujimi kit can certainly be bought cheaper on Ebay and Co.

Yes, but I had already bought the Studio 27 kit, and that appeared in the suggestions. And it was shiny :D
I am still looking for a Lotus 102 conversion...

I've also had problems with them combining shipping. Had two items in their warehouse and they made me ship them separately.

Actually some of the transactions specifically mentioned that they would be only for the Japanese locals and never intended for export outside. They are very strict about those conditions as well and never lifted them. Very similar to some of the eBay offers which they do not ship outside of their country no matter how much extra you can offered them because quite simply, they don't feel comfortable shipping other than local inside their own country.

That's the sellers' choice no matter how much you are trying to change their minds, which meant you would probably missed a few really good and rare deals.

Cheers,
Canice
