GB Project #4 Fujimi Ferrari 641/2
If you've followed my GB so far, you'll know that I had started a Protar Mclaren MP4/2C as part of my efforts towards world domination......rrrrrr, GB champion. Well, that fell through! Literally! I was trying to fix something into place and the damn thing slipped right between my fingers and down to the floor! Just like a real race car, the results were'nt pretty! It's repairable, but it was the inevitable finish to that kit. Come to find out all the pieces molded in black are vinyl. And it would seem that NOTHING glues vinyl! Using Tamiya's CF that had given me wonderful results on plastic, i'd glue something in place and it never stuck! Or if it did stick, it'd snap off when you breathed on it real hard! It was driving me nuts, so when she crashed to the floor, there was an actual sense of relief! ANYWAY!
So Project #4 will now be Fujimi's 1/20 Ferrari 641/2 Au France version.
Originally, I had no intentions of even buying this kit, but when HLJ had it on sale for half off their listed price, I couldn't pass it up!
The molded details on this thing are fairly impressive! They molded little scratch lines into the wings to help with the carbon fiber look, i'm excited to see how that looks once it's painted. Mine won't be done with CF decals, but i'd be really interested to see what those with the talent and patience ( not my strong point) can do with them.
My only complaint so far is about the name plate decals. I can understand not printing them with the M... word on them, but I think they could have put the red part on. All they give you is a nice white rectangle! So I hope my fill ins are shipped sometime soon!
Here's my little bit of progress so far...

It looks like your off to a fine start. The finish on the body appears to be very smooth and shiney!

Nice work. Did you paint the springs, or rebuild them? They look clean and realistic.

Getting close to the finish line now! Got the radiator pipes on, kinda dicked up the paint on them while wrestling them in position, got some Tabu fill in decals spread about as per the pics in Tamiya's Up Close book, should be done by the end of the week....he said.
To answer an earlier question; the springs were painted by hand! Thank you very much. Makes my eyes ache less knowing someone appreciates the effort!

Nice work so far Bought this kit myself today but the cf patterns that are molded and that disappoints me.. If you want to cf-decal all the areas you need to sand down all the molded cf areas
By the way has anyone got good ref pics off the car.. cant seem to find hi-res pics.

Re: GB Project #4 Fujimi Ferrari 641/2 Fini
All done! This turned out to be a pretty nice build, fairly well detailed for a 1/20 kit. The one problem I found is the same problem I have had with each Fujimi kit i've built so far; the cowling doesn't fit flush. There's a nice gap. There was for the C2, the CK and this one too. Maybe w/o the engine the two parts fit better, I dunno. I'm tempted to build another one to use my left over Mansell decals just to find out.
A couple of things to note, applying the decals on the rear wing turned out to be quite the challenge. Because of them molded lines, the decals would not slide at all! So adjusting them took a lot of patience. And for whatever reason, the windscreen isn't as long as the gap it's supposed to fit on the cowling! How'd that happen?
But overall I liked the kit, think i'll keep this one! Thanks for looking!
